~Advancing Your Career and Creating a Personal Brand~

It is important when considering a new position to examine your strengths and your passions. The first step in career planning is for you to to develop a clear understanding of who you are, what you stand for, and for what you want to be known which is your personal brand. This presentation will allow you to examine how to resume submission, the interview process, and ways to negotiate to become a successful applicant. You will explore how to differentiate yourself from colleagues in the field and successfully position yourself for the next level in your career. In this pre-conference workshop, participants will:

  • Discuss strategies for next career steps
  • Idenfity various career path opportunities
  • Define the right campus fit
  • Strategies for using social media effectively in the job search
  • Develop strategies for creating, packaging, and communicating a personal brand

~Make Assessment and Evaluation Work for Diversity, Equity and Inclusive Excellence:

It Works If You Work It!~


Let’s unleash the illuminative powers of assessment and evaluation as rich natural resources for enacting, as well as documenting progress, on our success visions. Doing so requires responsive uses of assessment AS and FOR learning and not simply postmortems OF learning. They emerge as generative resources for relevant knowledge creation and continuous development towards excellence, in addition to conventional accountability compliance documentation.They become vehicles that inform and improve as well as prove.

In what ways and to what extent are your curricular, cocurricular and instructional processes breathing life into success visions for all students? How do you know your accomplishments and the extent to which your evaluative judgments resonate with the lived realities of the persons that you assess—experiential validity?

To fully embrace this agenda, educators must become boundary-spanning excellence facilitators who use diversity-grounded, equity-minded assessment/evaluation resources with a double-sided mirror. Let’s get busy helping our students and our colleagues bring forward their best selves in full voice to do their best learning, best engaging and best work for the greater good. It works if we work it!

~The Negro Educational Review: Preparing for Successful Publication~

The Negro Educational Reviewis a refereed journal established in 1950 to provide a forum for Black scholars to publish their research and articles. The NER continues as an interdisciplinary forum that publishes research, reports, analyses, and descriptions of issues that pertain to Black people around the world. The workshop addresses strategies that can be implemented with very small budgets to support, nurture, and enhance a culture of scholarship that highlights research and publications and promotes advancement in higher education.
